  2.               INTRODUCING TheNet X-1J Release 4
  3.  
  4. This version is a modification to TheNet X-1J release 2 and
  5. includes a small number of changes that I had promised.
  6. Specifically the changes from TheNet X-1J release 2 are :
  7.  
  8.   The buffer loss problem has been fixed
  9.   The ARP table is automatically updated from ARP requests &
  10.   replies
  11.   The node maintains a second heard list of L3 Netrom nodes
  12.   that gateway through the node
  13.   The RxDeviation & Smeter ADC channels may also be used as 
  14.   arbitrary inputs instead
  15.   A bug in the copying of digipeated frames in KISS mode 2
  16.   has been corrected
  17.   A defensive port flush function has been added
  18.   Link list integrity checking has been extended to check
  19.   reverse links
  20.   A bug in handling of BBSALIAS, HOSTALIAS and DXCALIAS has
  21.   been fixed
  22.   The USER list shows circuit choke status for patchcord
  23.   connections.
  24.   BBS, HOST and DXCLUSTER are cleared properly on cold start
  25.   The ADC* text messages may be up to 12 characters long
  26.   The ACL checks the end user call as well as the node call
  27.   in accepting connections.
  28.   A default IP route entry may be made.
  29.   Lines that start with a '#' are ignored by the switch.

  31. The ARP table is managed by sending ARP requests and by
  32. monitoring ARP messages received. The BBSALIAS etc commands
  33. were compromised by the inclusion of the TexNet interface and
  34. have been corrected.

  36. The L3MHeard command controls a second heard list. It shows
  37. each station that passes Net/Rom frames to the node for
  38. gatewaying. Each entry shows the time since last gateway,
  39. port, frames heard and the callsign of the last destination
  40. node that the sending node was sending to.
  41.  
  42. The USER command has been enhanced to show, for each
  43. patchcord entry, whenever one or other circuit has been
  44. choked.
  45.  
  46. If one or other of the ADC channels used for measuring RX 
  47. Deviation or signal strength are not required  for those 
  48. purposes, they may be used for other purposes in a manner
  49. similar to the other 2 ADC channels.
  50.  
  51. A menu driven windowing patch utility with context sensitive
  52. help is included.
  53. Utilities for printing passwords in a sysop-friendly manner
  54. and a utility for changing the help text attributable to John
  55. Bednar WB3ESS are also provided. Modifications for the
  56. MFJ1278C by WB0YRQ are included in the bankswitching details.
  57. A utility to manage the node configuration by N8PTT is
  58. included.

  60. The previous releases introduced the following :

  63.      A Voltmeter function for the other two ADC channels
  64.      Support for the TexNet '*** LINKED to' syntax

  73.     Nodes broadcasts occur 60 seconds after power up,

  75.     PARMS, MODE etc may be managed by offset & value,
  76.     Digipeat uplink & downlinks may be selectively enabled,
  77.     Level 4 retries ( min ) is now 1,
  78.     An MTU command allows MTU settings to be changed for IP use,
  79.     Node alias handling is optionally case sensitive,
  80.     TALK will optionally pass 8 bit data,
  81.     The RESET bug in versions prior to TheNet X-1J has been cured,
  82.     The ability to remotely set the node's alias,
  83.     The ability to listen for 3 extra aliases & invoke BBS etc,
  84.     Selective node broadcast control for 'hash' nodes,
  85.     A UI command to send arbitrary UI commands,
  86.     Access control list capabilities,
  87.     Multi-user conferencing ( the 'TALK' command ),
  88.     A CWID keyer,
  89.     Better SYSOP authentication,
  90.     MHeard list showing callsigns, packets heard & time since last heard,
  91.     MHeard list shows whether a station is a node and / or TCP/IP station,
  92.     A Closedown command to remotely shut the node down,
  93.     A DXCluster command that operates like the BBS & Host commands,
  94.     A Btext command to set the node's beacon text message,
  95.     A Ctext command to set an optional alias connect text message,
  96.     The ability to enable or disable any command,
  97.     Improved command prompting with only valid commands shown,
  98.     Routes show optionally as alias:callsign or callsign alone,
  99.     Additional control over system reset,
  100.     KISS as an alternative to the crosslink protocol,
  101.     Hardware handshake controlled host mode operation,
  102.     MODE command for configuring additional parameters,
  103.     BBS command to auto connect to a remote BBS,
  104.     HOST command to auto connect to another BBS or Host,
  105.     BYE or QUIT commands to disconnect,
  106.     STATS command to display internal statistics,
  107.     MANAGER command for system manager access,
  108.     AUDIT command to set system audit levels,
  109.     Bug fixes ( e.g. info messages too long crashing the node ),
  110.     Changes to the NODES command,
  111.     An improved nodes broadcast algorithm for the crosslink port,
  112.     Split port nodes broadcast intervals,
  113.     Ability to enable & disable nodes broadcasts selectively on each port,
  114.     CQ apologises nicely if disabled,
  115.     Most Escape commands have been replaced with MODE parameters,
  116.     Beacon messages may be digi'd,
  117.     CALIBRATE command for remote checking of Tx deviation,
  118.     LINKS command to show current level 2 links,
  119.     Configuration of the beacon period,
  120.     Auto routing of 'connect' to either BBS, DXCluster or HOST,
  121.     Remote dump of entire neighbour lists for all nodes.
